Living room wall...

So, part of the living room wall is done now. This is an important wall, not only because it holds 10 feet of glass, but because it holds the remaining roof joists up. As you can see from the picture we used a large glu-lam style beam here. The size is 5 1/2 inch x 9 1/2 inch (14 cm x 24cm) and weighs about 140 lbs / 63 kg. We figured the simplest way of getting it up there was to place it on top of our scaffolding, and then lift it in place. The vertical 2x6 post you see has been secured properly to the floor. However the other vertical post on the right side has not. We used a clamp to keep it temporally in place. However we wanted it to be as tight as possible to our big beam. So we placed the beam first and then moved the post a little to make it tight. You can see from the pictures and video, that we used a ratchet style clamp to draw the whole thing together tightly at the top. So, it went rather smoothly and we're happy with the result.

One minor hicup was a miscalculation on our part with one of the post heights. It was an easy fix with some extra 2x6 supports and will fill the gap. Perhaps we didn't interpret the drawing correctly, but these things happen.

Our post came up a little short.

Gap left by shorter post. Easily fixed after however.

Completed living room glass wall.
